If you're considering running for office in Tulare County, you've got some extra time.

But, it depends on what office you're seeking.

Calvin Not Seeking COS Permanent Presidency

Calvin Not Seeking COS Permanent Presidency

College of the Sequoias Interim Superintendent/President Brent Calvin announced today that he will not pursue the permanent CEO position at this time. Citing family considerations and a belief that a more experienced president could serve the college better during the state’s current economic crisis, Calvin has elected not to apply for the permanent presidency, for which there is currently a nationwide recruitment being conducted.

“I love the college and I love the communities we serve,” Calvin said today, “And I look forward to helping our district any way I can.”

The COS Board of Trustees appointed Calvin to serve on a 12-month interim basis after former Superintendent/President Bill Scroggins resigned in May to take the same position at Mt. San Antonio College in Southern California. At the time, Calvin had just completed his fourth year as COS’ dean of business and social sciences.

Gracie Gets A Miracle; Undergoes Bone Marrow Transplant

An update now to a story we first brought you last July.

The parents of a Visalia toddler weren't sure if their daughter would be alive today.

3–year–old Gracie Chavez was sick and desperately needed a matching bone marrow donor.

Now it looks like they'll get their miracle.

When we first met Gracie, she had to get blood platelet infusions twice a week.

She has aplastic anemia, a condition where her bone marrow doesn't produce new cells to replenish her blood supply.

The only cure – a bone marrow transplant.

The odds of finding a match for her as high as one in 100,000.

Fast forward to January 2012, Gracie combs her hair right off her head, after undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, to get ready for her for long awaited bone marrow transplant.

Calendars Go On Sale To Help Sick Boy

A Visalia toddler has been diagnosed with a very rare disease.

The hospital bills keep stacking up, but you have the chance to help the family by purchasing a calendar.

Oliver, or "Olly," is 21 months old. He was diagnosed with multisystem Langerhans cell histiocytosis in January 2012.

This is a cancer-like disease of the immune system. The disease is basically an overpopulation of certain cells that causes damage to healthy tissue and bone. It is treated with aggressive chemotherapy and steroids.

Olly's mother -- Shannan Ajluni -- tells KMPH News that several of her friends in the group "Cuties With Cloth Booties" on CafeMom.com are selling calendars to help cover the costs of Olly's care.

Ajluni says 100% of the proceeds will be used to help with hospital expenses.
